Blue Green Khan Floor - 28 Nov 2023

What’s a Khan floor?

So this is an ultra-simple pattern that I saw on a TV show once, set in Mongolia (see this post for example) to experiment further with the multilayer varnish technique. In this case, I used ink pencils for the base, and acrylic_gloss on top. For the chiral stars, I just left the ink (as a yellow-green fade, not 100% intentional). For the other parts, it was blue ink on the base, and green acrylic (+gloss) on top.

The rough paper (cold pressed?) is nice as it meant that the ink was not totally absorbed, or at least gives a pattern under the varnish.

And the weird border?

Yes, that was a flourish as this looks like a tiled floor which often has borders. It was probaby more faff than the main pattern, as it happens. Also a bit distracting with the white space, so I covered it in pencil:

Then I rubbed the pencil … there are various hizzards … and grumbo are shaved away that leaves you with a regular old plumbus. Er, anyway I thought it looked better like that.
