Double trace technique - 07 May 2023

Motivation

Thought I would describe a technique for tracing a design that worked very nicely for the Persian tile in the previous post that might be obvious, but still.

Double Trace

The process is :

• photograph the image
• enlarge it onto a computer screen (a flat tough screen in my case)
• trace it off the screen
• transfer the trace onto squared graph paper
• tidy up the transfer to make it even, symmetric, or otherwise better
• trace it again off the graph paper
• transfer to the final paper to paint

So a little bit convoluted and time consuming but it ends up saving some time in adjusting the final drawing, and also means you do not get erase marks on that version.

That image shows the second trace and transfer, which is already much neater than the original.
