Finished the spider that I prototyped here with some tweaks to the layout. Here is the design:
Tracing paper to transfer it was maybe overkill, but drawing it first on graph paper makes getting the symmetry better.
The most nerve-wracking part of painting it was the black ink. Well also that was most of it as well! I was a bit careful to make an inner shape for each of the regions outlined by spider parts or the threads.
I’m quite pleased with it - the red is a little faint (since this picture I’ve painted over the red some more). Also the black ink is quite uneven. However, it is what I imaginged it would be - or close to it.
