Yes, they are fun to do and nice and regular. I wanted a very tile-like effect so the idea was to put gesso directly onto heavy-grade paper and then paint on top of that. It makes the paper very heavy, and then tracing on top of the gesso in pencil is not the easiest. However, it is at least relatively easy to correct the pencil marks.
Couple of visible mistakes there, of course. The colours also look very washed-out, as I’m using clear tar gel (iirc). So onto the next course!
After a few more layers of paint and some other tidying, this came about:
The weird pencil frame and ‘shade’ border are intended as a way to integrate the non-square border with the square paper. Think it works.
Overall I’m pretty happy with the result. It does have a reasonable tile-like effect.
