Not particularly exciting examples

After the silver-blue octagons, I made various experimental pieces using blue/red ink and varnishes. The results were pretty meh:

Stripy or patterny blue painting

While the photo (as ever) does it little justice, the idea also of patterns underneath (in this case, red blobs) and blue layers on top (with varnish) … well it doesn’t look very interesting.

Into the Cave

As a slightly more interesting example, I thought of the idea of a dark cave with stalactite/stalagmites would look good. The dark blue that results from the red underneath (straight onto the page) combined with lighter shades from just blue over varnish - well it looked like:

I mean, it’s okaaay but not sure that it’s much different from just using different values of ink. Maybe the only value here would be to have a ‘shifted’ red layer underneath the blue layer. A bit like screen printing I suppose. Not sure if it’s any use, really.
