I had a whim to paint on black paper. So naturally I decided to try using the precision masking fluid on it. While it sortof worked, the result was also suspect:
Anyway, moving on… I painted over with gesso to get this - actually quite nice - result :
The gesso has a nice stone-like look. Of course I then proceeded to ruin it by trying painting over with nail polish (hence the title, sortof). Then I painted over with more gesso for some reason.
Well, this was where we ended up:
Then it got a little wild, with blue and green acrylic and varnish layers and scraping it with a metal ruler to expose the underlying nail polish:
Putting nail polish diluted with acetone on the ‘cuts’ kindof pulled the acrylic off as well.
In conclusion, more research is needed. Er I mean it looks o…k… but not sure about some parts. Oh and I forgot to say I re-drew over the original pencil lines on top of the acrylic.
