A fabric designer, Laura Ashley made a fabric that (I think) is called ‘Mr Jones’ and is a classic. We had it as wallpaper, and I was looking at it recently, so I wanted to try reproducing it. It’s fairly simple:
There are some subtleties in the shape of the central leaf-like patterns (in my opinion, quite like a medieval tile) and the narrow gap around the square. In the version we had, it was sandy yellow, red, and blue. I made it in just blue which looks ok.
Ok yes and then I messed it up. I painted over in glossy red, but then was messing around with the pencil outlines and it got more and more ground down:
A mixture of sanding, ink, varnish, and pencil graphite made … well that. Maybe not the best idea, but I’m not too unhappy.
