Yes, this blogpost was on Hacker News and the design (from Artuqids Palace door, apparently) caught my eye. Of course, it is only the middle of the design in the image, so I traced it, reconstructed the core part, then re-traced and adjusted until it looked right.
Which was quite a bit of work, and still was quite error-prone.
I’ll be honest, the final drawing and painting was not my best work. By far. The geometry is very off in places, and the colours I just put in randomly in watercolour pencil. However, the overall design probably would be quite nice if done right.
Clearly the underlying geometry is rhombitrihexagonal with the hexagon surronded by squares and triangles. Ugh, and the colours just look like Christmas tree decorations.
