For some reason I like the subgrid of octagons and squares, so I made another flower design. This time I used (more) gouache, to see if the colours were brighter.
Fairly simple, with the same overlapping circles in the octagons, although less of them to make the petals clearer. Then in the squares, just the square-circle motifs. This is where circle templates really come into their own, making these multiple small circles very easy.
The pink petals were a mixture of opaque and transparent watercolours, to see if that made a difference, which .. it does but maybe only a subtle one. Anyway, I’m quite happy with the output, as it looks nice and has a clear look. Leaving some areas unpainted helps, I think.
