One of the patterns in Keith Critchlow’s book (‘Islamic Art’, page 179) uses overlapping circles to generate a dodecahedron at the outer intersections of the circles. No, I mean a dodecagon of course. Too much 3D stuff in my youth, clearly.
So I decided to just tile these and paint them:
For some reason they look a little like a ‘heatmap’ colour scheme, although I suppose ‘rainbow’ could also describe it well. A little messy - maybe it gives it an organic look? In any case, it’s hard to get the spacing of the circles right with the circle template, although much faster than with a compass, I think…
